pronounced / jaa • lu /

I'm a product designer currently at Benchling, where I lead design for our inventory management products, enabling biotech companies to make breakthrough discoveries faster. I began my career in education, stumbled upon product design, and have shipped products at places like Coursera and LinkedIn.

When I'm not designing stuff, you can find me climbing, making electronic music or going down Wikipedia holes.

Volunteering my time

When we all went into lockdown for COVID-19, I suddenly had a lot more time on my hands, so I decided to volunteer with non-profits and local governments via US Digital Response. I ended up working on mail-in ballot envelopes and launching outreach campaigns and websites.

My favorite experience was participating in the NYC[x] Fellowship, where I led a redesign for a senior services and event catalog for the City of New York, enabling socially-isolated older New Yorkers to better find and access online programs.

Designing romance novel covers

My wife quit her tech job and spent the last year and half cranking out three novels. Illustration's not my strong suit, but I work for coffee and hot cheetos, so it was a pretty good deal for her overall. You can find her books on Amazon.

Making beats

I love electronic music inflected with soul, warmth, and organic rhythms,

Climbing rocks

I love it, but I've yet to get past a V3 outdoors (working on it though 💪).
